The Roots is recognized by the provincial sport body as the designated Wakeboard & Wakeskate boat and cable series in Ontario. It is a not-for-profit event series organized by a committee of long-time competitive riders who have taken the initiative to provide the next generation of athletes with the opportunity to excel through this competitive series. Each event is ability driven which provides an inclusive environment from newbie riders as young as four, to the pro level rider, and all the way up to veterans 50+. The series is 100% grassroots focused with the goal of introducing new participants to the sport.
About Cable Wakeboarding:
Cable is quickly becoming one of the most efficient, accessible, cost effective & fun ways to be pulled on your board and the Roots is extremely excited to be offering the first a three part cable series in the country. The contest series will stop off at three parks across the province including The Ranch Wakepark in Newmarket, Boarderpass in Port Colborne and The Rail Yard in East Gwillimbury.
To foster a rider-driven, inclusive, safe, fun, and progressive event series for wakeboarding and wakeskating in Ontario, focused on overall growth for the sport.
To be the cornerstone template in the development of the The Roots Canadian Wake Series within the next 3 years staying true to our core values. The series will encompass both boat and cable events focused on grassroots sport development and introduction to sport.
Safe, fun atmosphere, progression focused, increase accessibility to the sport and remain rider -driven.
…“I can’t say enough about the Roots Series here in Ontario. With every event, there are more and more new faces and they leave at the end of the day wanting more. From checking out the new product of the year, high fiving the next rider off the dock, or chowing down on some barbecued grub with some great buds, without the generous support of the sponsors and volunteers – wakeboarding and wakeskating wouldn’t be getting the attention and media it deserves. Where else can you learn to wakeboard, demo new product and watch, or participate, in a great competition all in one day? For me, it’s about hanging out with great people who share the same passion.”…Christain Primrose – WWA Worlds Silver Medalist
“The Roots has attracted hundreds of competitors, many of which are young, and have never competed before. Every single one of them leaves at the end of the day with a huge smile on their face, and usually with some free gear to go along with it. It has also been a great breeding ground for the older athletes hoping to make a career in wakeboarding, with the riding levels getting better and better every single event. Each event gets bigger and better, and runs a little smoother. I can’t say enough good things about the work Erika & the team has done. The Roots Series revived Ontario Wakeboarding and is growing like crazy each year. Without it, we would see the end of pro wakeboarders coming out of Ontario…”Robbie McMillen, 2010 & 2011 Roots Series Open Men’s Champ
